Welcome back learners and parents

Dear parents

Welcome to 2016, and a warm welcome to the new chess players and their parents.  I hope you had a restful time during the school holidays.  Chess learners, I hope you have played a lot of chess during the holidays as well.

Foundation Phase parents:
If your child plays chess, or would like to learn how to play chess, then I invite you to enrol him/her in the chess ‘class’ for foundation phase learners in 2016.
Practises for the juniors (grade 1 - 3)
The chess ‘classes’ is going to take place in the Club house, on a Monday, from 13:15 to 14:00.  I will teach them the first part, and they have time to play against each other in the last 15 to 20 minutes. This will be for grades 1 and 2’s only.
The grade 3’s can come and play chess from 14:00 until 14:25, from where they can join the rest of the school in the art room, until 15:00. (or 15:45 when the rest departs). The grade 1's and 2's may stay until 14:25.
Practises for the seniors (grade 4 - 7)

The chess practise is going to practise in the Arts & Culture Room, on a Monday and Wednesday, from 14:45 to 15:45.  This means, the learners will have 15min after school to change into something more casual or to have a quick snack before the practise starts.

IMPORTANT: No eating or drinking (except water) in the Art Room!

District Tournament

Our first (and only) WP Schools Chess District tournament takes place on the 5th and 6th of February 2016.  The tournament will take place at Hendrik Louw Primary School in the Strand.  I will be able to take the Aristea learners by bus to the event on both days. Entry forms and more information will be available next week. (25 January 2016)

Registration for 2016

I have created an online registration form for parents and learners.  This will make it easier to have your information all on one platform.  To register your child for Chess in 2016, click on the registration tab above and follow the link in the post.

I look forward to this very exciting year of chess.  I hope you do to.

Kind regards

Mr. Bekker
