Aristea Tournament Report and Results

Good day everyone!

What a tournament it has been.  A lot of development took place and everyone enjoyed the day fully.

With 230 learners registering and in the end only 188 playing, made for some computer difficulties early on.  (We as administrators also developing!).  At the start of the 3rd round, we decided to shorten the tournament to 4 rounds only, to finish on the scheduled time.  Everyone was in favour.

I want to congratulate all the players on their participation and the good sportsmanship that was shown throughout the day.  Like Mr Reon Hunter says: "We don't loose a chess match, because even when  losing, we learn and gain knowledge on the game!"  Thank you for your support.

See you again next year!

The District Play-off's went very well for Aristea.
Our under 13 team only lost two of their 5 matches games.
The under 11 team and the Girls team won 2 of their matches.

We would like to congratulate all the schools who qualified for the WP Top Schools and Western Cape Top Schools Tournament.  Click here to view them.

Western Cape Girls Tournament

Five of our learners and a teacher, Mrs Geldenhuys, took part in the Girls Tournament that happened on the 22nd of August.  They were treated with goodie bags, cookies and cooldrink throughout the day.  Congratulations to everyone! Here are their results:

Very good news

Good day to everyone.

We are ending our very good term of chess off with some excellent news: ALL our chess teams (under 11, 13 and Girls) have been selected to play in the District North Top Schools Playoffs on Saturday, the 1st of August.

This will imply that we will have to sharpen our games with a few extra practises. For the first two weeks, we are going to have special team practices on a Thursday afternoon as well, (the same time as the other practises).  We are also going to have a tournament on the 25th of July at school.  More info on that early next term.  If your son or daughter played in a league match this term, I really want them to play in this tournament. More information on the tournament will follow shortly.  For the first time, I'm going to do online entries! :-)

Talking about tournaments and sharpening our games - there is a big chess festival taking place in Cape Town in the middle week of the holidays.  There are three different types of tournaments to choose from.  The best for our learners are the Rapid (30 min a side) tournament on Thursday and Friday the 9th and 10th of July.  If you can provide your child with the opportunity to play in this very big tournament, his/her game would sharpen considerably during the holidays.  More information, click here.

I hope you enjoy the holidays.  Those of you driving far this holiday - drive safe and see you next term!

Kind regards.

Well can you believe it, we are almost done with the second term.  A term that has been a good one for Chess at Aristea!

Our learners are currently writing exams, thus no chess at school again until next term.
Hopefully I will get next terms fixtures before the end of the week.

For those interested, there is a big chess tournament (festival) taking place at the Cape Town Stadium in the holidays, from the 3rd to the 10th of July.  See the post below for more information.

Here then are the results for our matches that we played:
